Haere mai, nau mai, welcome to our kindergarten

Our kindergarten is situated on the Hibiscus Coast 30 minutes north of Auckland CBD.  The children from the kindergarten transition into a number of schools in the area including Orewa Primary, Orewa North Primary, Red Beach Primary, Kingsway School and Stella Maris Primary.

Orewa Beach Kindergarten (formerly Hibiscus Coast Kindergarten) opened in the early 1970's and maintained traditional morning and afternoon sessions until recently when we changed to the Kindergarten Day Model (KDM) [See the hours below].  It was originally located alongside the Orewa Primary School which has since moved to a new site and Orewa College is now established as our neighbour.

Our kindergarten provides an environment for children and their families/whanau which is safe, happy, stimulating and challenging. The programme allows uninterrupted time for children to play, interact, socialise, experience, explore and initiate their own learning and share their knowledge, culture, skills and interests facilitated and supported by qualified teachers.

Our Philosophy

At Orewa Beach Kindergarten we believe and work by the following values:

Whanaungatanga Family/community connections:

- Everyone should feel welcomed, wanted, accepted and informed

- All contributions and involvement are valued

- Authentic links between family/whanau and kindergarten

- The importance of community involvement and the richness this brings to our Kindergarten

Manaakitanga Respect:

- We recognise the importance of the Treaty of Waitangi - Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commit ourselves to its principles by acknowledging New Zealand's bi-cultural heritage

- Mutual respect between children, parents/whanau, teachers, and community

- Acknowledgement of the diverse nature of our families

- Respect for our environment, encouraging sustainability and acknowledging our responsibility as kaitiakitanga (caretakers) of our earth

Ako Learning:

- The importance of play and supporting children’s interests

- Teaching and learning is guided by the Principles of Te Whariki the Early Childhood Curriculum

- Children are competent and capable learners developing skills for life

- Encourage each child to reach their full potential in accordance with their individual ability

- Learning, leadership and responsibility should be shared amongst teachers, parents, whanau and children

- Providing a stimulating kindergarten environment that supports learning

Our Parent Committee

Our committee is made up of interested parents of children attending the Kindergarten. It is a great opportunity to form friendships and learn more about your child's centre. The committee organises fundraising and social events throughout the year and also takes responsibility for minor maintenance repairs. Meetings are monthly and new members are always welcome.

The Ducky Derby event is held annual each year, and funds projects and improvements at our kindergarten. Parent support is so important in making this day a success. Keep an eye out for information about this event at kindergarten, and feel free to contact our committee if you would like to help out on the day or sponsor this event.
