Whakatepea te ko Kia Kotahi - We are in this together!

Haere mai, Oso O Se Yo, Ni Hao, Namaste, Konnichiwa, Goeie More, Talofa, Kia Orana, Malo e lei le, Bonjour, Nga Mihi Mahana Kia Koutou - A warm welcome to everyone.

These are some of the greetings that represent the different ethnic cultures we have attending Browns Bay Taiaotea Kindergarten.

At Browns Bay Taiaotea we provide a place that is welcoming, comfortable and fun.  We present an attractive environnment that celebrates the children's work and play at kindergarten.

We value positive relationships with families that foster open communication and celebrate the diversity of our community.   We share a vision that children learn best through play.   We extend children's learning by providing an environment which responds to and challenges their ideas, views and interests.

Our Philosophy

•We believe that young children are citizens, and as such, have rights such as those written in the United Nations Rights of the Child Statement.

•We believe that each child’s learning will have been inspired, extended and enhanced by attending this quality kindergarten.

•We believe children are our primary focus: each child is unique and brings an exclusive set of capabilities and needs to the kindergarten.

•We believe young children learn best through purposeful play and meaningful experiences through a reciprocal approach to teaching and learning.

•We believe in the need to work in partnership with parents showing mutual respect and communication with openness and honesty. We value the contribution made by all parents.

•We believe the curriculum we offer is based on the Principles as stated in Te Whaariki, and will offer variety, excitement for learning, challenge and fun.

•We believe in the importance of creating an attractive and child-orientated environment and that teachers should act as positive role models in achieving this.

•We believe that as teachers our attitudes and beliefs about children should be positive and affirming.

•We believe New Zealand has a unique bi-cultural heritage through the Treaty of Waitangi.  Our particular community has a multi-cultural heritage.  People of all backgrounds and cultures will be welcomed, accepted and respected.

•We believe in the importance of careful planning and reviewing of practice; the setting of specific goals for both the service and the children to ensure implementation of our philosophy.  We also recognise children as active goal setters with their own sense of agency and voice.

•We believe that ongoing professional development and support is essential for teachers to demonstrate growth.
